Strong pre-season test for James at Brands Hatch

Tuesday 4th March 2014

James completed his one and only pre-season test at Brands Hatch last Thursday. The test was used in place of the official pre-season test on 4th May to maximise the effectiveness of the season budget. The test was the first time James had run with DPR Motorsport so the open pit lane structure of the day allowed James to maximise the time in the car and working with the team on setup.

The mixed weather conditions provided the opportune testing as James was able to develop a setup on the car in both wet and dry conditions and allowed James to get to grips with the car and track in both conditions. James quickly showed that he loves the wet by being faster than his more experienced teammate in the tricky conditions. However, for the majority of the day, his teammate had the upper hand in the dry. After a number of setup and driving improvements, James was able to equal the times set as the pair were the fastest Caterham Supersports on track.

Being overtaken by BTCC drivers Matt Neal and Gordon Sheddon was surreal. The sound and speed they have is phenomenal. A rare opportunity to see them in action at that distance.

The day was very successful with setups being developed in both wet and dry. The speed and consistency shown puts James in good steed for Snetterton on 10th/11th May, no matter the conditions. I can‘t wait for the season to get underway. We showed great pace in wet and dry conditions and I hope this only gets better with the more experience I have in the car. It was great working with DPR for the first time. I love their attitude to testing and the advancements we made.
